"Not for everyone"

What can I say? This neighborhood of 1,063 residents located in the northeast section of the city is a tough place to live and is not for everyone. In 2010, the average price of homes sold was $218,849 with about 40% being owner occupied. The homes here are a mixture of attached row homes as well as detached single family homes. The neighborhood is within the boundaries of Eastern Avenue N.E., Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue N.E. and Division Avenue N.E.

Burrville Elementary School and New Mt. Olive Community Center are the only schools within the neighborhood. There are no recreational facilities in Burrville so residents will need to go to adjacent areas for recreational opportunities. Seniors will be able to use the adjacent Woodson Senior Recreation Center. There are two places of worship within Burrville. Residents will be pushed to find many restaurants or a variety of shopping opportunities here as well. On a positive note, the neighborhood is serviced by a number of Metro Bus stops.

Recent crime data is disturbing and it is a shame that the residents are forced to live with it. Crimes against people, including assault, as well as crimes against property are commonplace. As always check current crime data to make an informed decision as to the crime risk before moving into any neighborhood.

"weak community and nothing to do"

Not the most dangerous neighborhood in the District, but all too close. Some violent crime exists, but other neighborhoods are where the lives are lost. Although there is no housing project in the area (only single family homes) to lock the rough neighbors in, Burrville has been unable to attract higher class residents. Many houses are run down because residents don’t have enough money to keep them up properly. Instead, the houses sell for a song and the streets are full of fast food joints and convenience stores. You can smell the grease walking by on the sidewalk. Plenty of homeless call the sidewalks home, and some loitering also takes place. On the bright side, many homes do have yards--if you dare use them. Chances are, after the children come home from school their parents won’t allow them to play outside without close supervision. The local lack of community contributes to much of the crime, including drug dealing and violence. Good neighbors, and quality babysitters, are hard to come by. For those who cannot afford better, Burrville is an OK place to live. Otherwise, it isn't the most liveable place around. Just be sure to hold tightly onto your handbag.

"On the Edge In More Ways Than One"

Burrville is located on the far northwest corner of Washington. Unfortunately, this is one of the least desirable areas of the District of Columbia. Just over the DC border from Burrville is that slightly less desperate town of Seat Pleasant, Maryland. However, this proximity to one of the wealthiest states in the Union does little to influence Burrville’s character. For instance, Burrville has neither Maryland’s school or library system.
While many neighborhoods in DC are working hard ot change their nature and image, Burrville has not enjoyed the success that many other area of the District have. The same problems remain, sometimes from generation to generation: a high crime rate, too many drugs on the street and poor schools In the current economy, these existing problems are exacerbated by low employment and rising prices. Burrville is one of the many parts of the country that are drowning in a sea of low hope and expectations that characterize much of the less pleasant areas of the Nation’s Capital.
