"Every neighborhood has potential"

Adamsville is located 6 miles south west of downtown Atlanta. Major highways accessing this community are I-285 and interstate I-20, while Martin Luther King Jr. drive connects the neighborhood with downtown Atlanta. The area is predominately African American and like may other neighborhoods on the west side of Atlanta, Adamsville does not have many amenities and resources. Cascade skating rink (today know as Golden Glide) has been the area’s most popular attraction since the 1970s.

Roller skating is a very popular past time for many native Atlantans. In fact, this past time is so popular that the 2006 film “ATL” starring rapper T.I. was filmed in the Adamsville skating rink. Much of the film documents what life is like in this community. It is an excellent source for those seeking additional information about the culture there.

Georgia’s theme park six flags is about five miles away from Adamsville in Mabelton GA. If you ever find yourself lucky enough to live in this community, you will spend a lot of summers at this park because there isn’t much else to do. I wish that more resources were invested in this community. Better housing and amenities would make this neighborhood ideal because of its proximity to Downtown Atlanta.
Pros
  • close to Downtown
Cons
  • needs a lot of work

"Adamsville - Great recreation center"

This little neighborhood has had it's ups and downs throughout they years. Growing up in Adamsville as a child was a little oasis for me. I didn't know that it was the "hood" because I lived in a brand new house in a subdivision built in the early 80s.

It sits between I-285 and I-20 so it is easy access to all the major highways and downtown Atlanta. The immediate neighborhood doesn't have much shopping but if you hop on I-20 west you will run into a couple of malls and large grocery stores.

The schools in the area are average and doesn't offer much for the involved parents. There are a few parks and a huge recreation center. So you have the opportunity to play and exercise in modern facilities.

The neighborhood is old but there are a few newer subdivisions. The cost of living is moderate so you will get a lot for your money. Unfortunately this area has a lot of low income neighborhoods and is very urban.

Adamsville is close to Six Flags Over Georgia and other attractions in the downtown Atlanta area. This is not one of the best neighborhoods but it is a gateway to many attractions and convenient to the city.

"Diamond in the rough?"

Overcoming its mostly lack luster reputation, Adamsville may be best known for its public recreation center located on nearly ten acres, named the Adamsville Natatorium and Gymnasium. The center boasts an Olympic sized pool and gym facilities. That’s about it, unfortunately.

Nudged between Interstate I-285 West and Interstate I-20 to the north of it, Adamsville defies description, not because it is highly exceptional. No, it’s actually quite the contrary; it is quite ordinary. As such, it is difficult to select an outstanding feature of this neighborhood!

If pressed, I could point to a few positives, like the ease of interstate access and public bus transportation throughout the area. Or, perhaps, I could talk about the affordable housing opportunities, since Adamsville has a healthy supply of modest single family homes and rental housing stock. Or, may be even the fast food restaurants sprinkled throughout the area.

On the negative side, public schools in the area are not the best that Atlanta has to offer – but I understand that the Georgia State Superintendent of Schools and the Atlanta Public School System are working to change this.

So in the meantime, I would recommend Adamsville for single people looking for a reasonably low cost for entering the Atlanta housing market. My husband, the real estate agent, thinks that this area is bound to grow and expand over the next five years.

Adamsville may be a diamond in the rough, whose tru value will be uncovered in the near future.
Let's hope!
