Mozley Park

Mozley Park is an incredibly populated subdivision, located to the west of Atlanta. In order to reach Mozley Park from Atlanta you need to take Interstate 75/85 south until you reach Interstate 20, in which case you take I20 West until you arrive to the subdivision.

Mozley Park is just under a half square mile, yet the population is just over 2,000 (4,200 per square mile as apposed to downtown Atlanta's 3,100 per square mile). The average house costs just under $115,000, which is a third of what you pay in the downtown Atlanta area.

The school districts to leave something to be desired, as most are rather overcrowded, unless you opt for a private school. Also, because the area is so heavily populated, there isn't much in terms of parks and other recreation options, although there are a few different churches.

The shopping and attractions are lacking in this department also, with very few boutique or even name brand options. If you want any kind of entertainment or shopping opportunities, you need to head east towards Atlanta, as the closer you are to the city the more options you are going to find for yourself.

Mozley Park is located in southwest Atlanta, and is situated between Martin Luther King Jr. Dr SW and Westview Dr SW. It is not too far from Interstate 20, which means that it is relatively close to many of the city's attractions. This neighborhood has definitely gone through its ups and downs. Most of the homes in this area were built around the 1920’s and consist of beautiful large bungalow and Victorian-styled structures. Some of the homes in this neighborhood have been rehabbed, but others still need a bit of work done to help bring this neighborhood up to speed.

There are some good things to say about this area. For starters, the location is relatively ideal. It’s only about 3 miles from Downtown, Atlanta. So, residents of this community basically have the city at their finger tips. In addition, the Georgia Dome is only about 7 minutes away (perfect for the Falcons fan). This neighborhood is also not too far from the Atlanta University Center (AUC). The AUC is home to several prestigious historical black colleges and universities, including Spelman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse School of Medicine.

Students and locals will find that the cost of living is pretty cheap here, which is a always a good perk. Hopefully, in time, this neighborhood will have new developments to make it as desirable as some other parts of Atlanta.

On one side is Ralph David Abernathy, and on the other is Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Mozley Park is also flanked by the physical park by the same name and Green Leaf Circle Park. Harris Chesley Park is just right down the road. Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University and several other historically black colleges and universities are neighbors to Mozley Park.

With all that history, culture, art, and eclectic wonderfulness readily accessible, Mozley Park has some advantageous other neighborhoods could only dream of. Housing and other amenities tend to be relatively low and affordable because businesses tend to cater to the student population.

There is some noise, some crime, some grime, and some issues that may be considered unsavory, but overall, Mozley Park has a lot of great things for residents to look forward to.
