"Logan Square - Lot's of Change"

Logan Square is an interesting neighborhood. For a long time it was one of the most dangerous areas in Chicago. When I lived here a while ago I got followed home, robbed and people got shot a lot. It’s been very slowly changing since hipster kids started moving in. Now it’s definitely safer than it was, although some parts, especially the western part, can still get a little sketchy.

Even though it wasn’t always safe, Logan Square was a really family-oriented, neighborly place. It’s been a mainly Hispanic neighborhood for a long time, although lately all I see when I’m there seem to be white people. It really sucks that with development comes higher prices and a less diverse population.

There are a lot of great restaurants in the neighborhood, none of them pricey. Friendship Chinese is an awesome modern spot. Lula Café has been in the neighborhood for a while and is delicious and interesting. There’s no shortage of good Mexican places, but El Cid is my favorite. There are also some newer, trendier places opening up.

A ton of development has been going on in the last five years or so along Milwaukee Avenue south of Fullerton. There’s a brand new brewery and several new bars that are attracting a new kind of crowd to the area.

The neighborhood is overall pretty young and vibrant, and a fun place to hang out.

"Relatively peaceful, but not too far from downtown"

Logan Square is one of those Chicago neighborhoods that often gets overlooked by higher profile rivals such as nearby Wicker Park and Bucktown. Yet, Logan Square does have some things going for it. First is the architecture, as there are plenty of interesting old stone faced buildings that you might not see in other areas. Secondly is the location, which while not as great as Wicker Park and Bucktown, still affords relatively fast and easy access to the entire city.

The actual Logan Square from which the area derives its name isn't a massive square when compared to other squares and parks in Chicago, but it does have a very cool and impressive monument in the form of the Illinois Centennial Column. This landmark most definitely stands out in the area and is quite striking. Often this area is not very crowded, and it can make for a nice, relatively tranquil spot for relating on a long day.

There are many streets in this predominately residential neighborhood that have an interesting look and feel. If you are looking to get to know Chicago just a little bit better, then at least a drive through this area might be a good idea.

"A Northwest Gem"

With a rich history, cultural diversity, and a hip vibe, Logan Square is certainly a popular Chicago neighborhood. Located in the city’s northwest, Logan Square is bound by the Chicago River to the east, Diversey Avenue to the north, Bloomingdale Avenue to the south, and the Metra/Milwaukee line to the west. Within the boundaries of Logan Square are the neighborhoods of Bucktown and Palmer Square.

Originally founded as a Norwegian-American area, Logan Square is one of the city’s most ethnically diverse neighborhoods today. Residents of the area include a large Latin-American population, numerous Eastern-Europeans, and many African-Americans. Whether passing through or making this area your home, you’ll find plenty of landmarks, interesting homes, and places of interest to explore.

Bucktown is one of my favorite Logan Square areas. Known for its hipster population, Bucktown is one of the best shopping areas in the city for anyone in search of unique finds. You can also enj

"A really cool, young neighborhood"

Logan Square is one of my favorite neighborhoods. I'm a young guy, so the overall atmosphere of youth and energy really appeals to me. I love going for walks down one of the Logan Square Boulevards. These Boulevards have actually become historic landmarks, and for good reason: they're beautiful. There are big homes with lots of grass and flowers in the spring and summer. It is certainly one of the more picturesque areas in the city.

I should also mention that a walk is also nice because of the safety of the neighborhood. I never feel nervous going for a walk.

I dated a bit of a foodie for a while, and she loved the Farmer's Market in Logan Square. I know it isn't exactly a dining destination, but it really offers some amazing food. There are some other really good restaurants, so you'll never go hungry.

Nightlife is also pretty good. Bars here aren't quite the loud party destinations in other areas, but there are plenty to choose from and you can have a good drink and conversation.

Homes aren't too bad in terms of price, and there are a lot of younger professionals in the area, so you can trust that you'll enjoy living here. I'd love to be able to move here at some point. Highly recommended.
Pros
  • Mostly reasonable priced housing
  • Currently home prices aren't too bad and are a good investment
  • Fun Nightlife.
Cons
  • Kinda busy
  • It can be a bit loud at times

"Diverse Yuppie Haven"

Those of us who live in Logan Square love it, and with good reason – crazy development has been going on here in the past few years, including the establishment of a number of new art galleries, bars, coffee shops and restaurants.

Residents of Logan Square have a strong sense of community, with the presence of their our own farmers market co-op and Logan Square Kitchen, which offers a nice space for meet-ups. Thrift stores are everywhere, and Milwaukee is home to a lot of cool places for movies and music and sushi. There are two neighborhood festivals, Metronome and Milwaukee Avenue Arts – and even if Logan Square has gotten pretty gentrified, it hasn’t lost its edge.

The population remains somewhat diverse (you cans still hear the occasional Spanish or Polish being spoken), and there is a decent choice of multinational cuisine available in the neighborhood.
Nightlife here is outstanding – there are so many bars within walking distance. Really, there is a lot within walking distance; just about anything you can imagine is convenient to get here. It’s also easy to get to the lakefront from here – a number of buses will take you there.

There really is a unique energy that makes Logan Square my favorite Chicago neighborhood.

"Home to the Hip and Trendy"

Logan Square is a great place to call home if you are a young professional who enjoys a convenient location but likes to come home to relative quiet. The area reminds me very much of my home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It is central enough to everything happening that those who love to have a good time call it home, but yet it is removed enough to make city living tolerable.

Within Logan Square you will find many great eateries and retail options. It is convenient for those living within it, but doesn't have enough of a draw to make it a parking and traffic nightmare. The residents also take great pride in their neighborhood and the community vibe is strong and friendly.

The summer Farmer's Market is well known and caters to the "crunchier" inhabitants who love the organic lifestyle. It is also close enough to the Loop and Lincoln Park that it offers the residents several close and comfortable options for spending time outside the neighborhood.

"Historic Neighborhood With Edgey Vibe"

Logan Square is an area that is filled with history. It used to be an enclave for Norwegian Immigrants but is now home to more Hispanic inhabitants as well as Eastern European people.

It has a beautiful boulevard system with amazing old homes and architecture. The residents are typically proud of their community and strive to maintain it.

Logan Square is near enough pretty much everything to be convenient without being over congested, even parking is reasonable.

In the summer the farmers market is famous the city over. People from all over the city venture to visit it.

While all cities are diverse this neighborhood exemplifies it in a good way. There are different cultures interacting together to bring this fantastic neighborhood to life.
