"West of the major Deegan is the best! Little NYC secret"
Kingsbridge is huge. So, I cant tell you much about east of the Major Deegan. Frankly I think it's a completely different neighborhood when one croses a major interstate highway. However, west of the highway towards Riverdale is in my opinion is one of the best kept secrets in New York City real estate. A friend from work and his wife recently moved to a new luxury building on 231st and Corlear and they couldn't be happier with the building and the area. The area is moderately being gentrified but by smart middle class young professionals of all races like my friend and his wife. Because of the recent developments, new small businesses have been opening up. The very popular Bronx Ale House comes to mind. It reminds me of how Williamsburg was at the start of it's transition but instead of hipsters moving in, it's young professionals who have been priced out of Manhattan.

"Culturally diverse Kingsbridge -- it ain't that bad!"
Kingsbridge is a great, culturally diverse neighborhood that really, in my opinion, gets a bad rap. Some of the homes in Kingsbridge in of itself are very beautiful and I personally believe the brownstones in this neighborhood are particularly in the best in the Bronx. The population itself is predominantly hispanic (particularly Dominican) and have great small little restaurants throughout the area. Some of the best Fangu (A dominican dish made of mashed plaintains, pork, and onions) is served in Kingsbridge. Also it is home of the fantastic River Plaza Shopping Center, a mall that is said to have over 200 merchants.
I believe Kingsbridge is one of the more up-and-coming neighborhoods in The Bronx.

"Unique NY Landscape"
This neighborhood is unique in that the hills sometimes get steep enough for stairs – a feat which for me was reminiscent of Paris, even if New York actually has little in common with the French capital. The Bronx is a fickle borough – with delightful neighborhoods often bordering on the not-so-great ones, but this one happens to be a quaint neighborhood that also features decent transportation into the city on the 1/9 subway line. The population here is incredibly diverse, with many of the recent arrivals coming from Latin America and the Caribbean, and many of the more rooted inhabitants being from Irish, Italian, Greek, and Eastern European families.
