Best Burger in New York City
This will surely cause a bit of controversy, as there are so many many incredible burgers in a town full of hyperbolically good food. Here's a first round:
1. Bill's Bar & Burger (the $5.95 classic "smash" burger)
2. Minetta Tavern (the $26 Black Label burger)
3. Txikito ($15 El Doble)
4. West Branch (mucho cheddar)
5. Aureole (the place feels a bit impersonal though)
6. Table 8 (8 oz burger) at the Cooper Square Hotel
7. Bar Breton (with excellent Parisian-style fries)
8. DBGB Kitchen and Bar (the Yankee burger with bacon)
The opinions expressed here are those of the individual and not those of StreetAdvisor.

Interesting list. I never visited the above places since I do not eat burgers. But if I am ever out I may go for Bill's Bar and Burger. Can't beat the $5.95 deal.

I had a surprisingly good burger during brunch at Epicerie Cafe Charbon in the Lower East Side, though I'm not sure if it qualified among the city's best. I am, however, a bit of a burger lover so that probably counts for something.
I've had my eye on DBGB Kitchen and Bar and am likely to make a reservation in the upcoming weeks; I'm actually really excited about the prospect.

BroadwayBK I too have had a good burger at Cafe Charbon but one day when I was craving a Turkey burger , I dragged my reluctant better half to BLT Burgers..I wouldn't say it was excellent but then the alcoholic milkshakes were an added plus.My friends however rave about the burgers at Shake Shack (on the UWS and the Flatiron district) and Zip burger in Midtown east but I have yet to try them out..

Ah, I've been trying to drag my reluctant better half there as well!! That's so funny. More than having good burgers (which I hear they have), I'm more interested in their array of desserts.
The spiked milkshakes are news to me, though, so I just became even more determined to go.

Honestly I feel like I have to add Five Guys to this forum. Okay, they may not live up to the forum heading of "best burger in NYC," but they make the best fast food burger I have ever tasted. I believe the chain originated in D.C., so obviously it shouldn't be a big tourist destination, but if you are a New York resident and are craving fast food (admit it, it happens), try them out.

It's not easy being a burger in this burger-adled town. So much excellent competition.

The Frenchie Burger Royale at DBGB looks amazing... a burger with black truffles? Probably so worth the $45.

@Uptowngirl: Do they have milkshakes without alcohol, as I don't drink?

Oooh no. Three Guys' on 96th Street and Madison. Best burgers in the city, especially if you're a carnivore like me who absolutely needs red meat to survive! Their cheeseburgers are delicious, melted, rare, tender, mouthwatering pieces of comfort-food goodness. Prices aren't cheap - it's clearly a UES diner - but oh so worth it! And certainly better than nearby famous Jackson Hole.

@ajadedidealist It looks like you can get a burger at 3 Guys on Madison for less than $10 - I'd say that's pretty cheap for the city. I always feel pretty thrifty if I've gotten an entire meal for less than $20.

Hey, that is a bargain for less than $10, especially with the prices restaurants charge in this city. Always good to get as break now and then.

@hhusted they do have BLT burger does have non alcoholic milkshakes as well.@ajadedidealist thanks for the tip about Three Guys on Madison and 96th . When I am craving a burger and want to stay in the neighborhood, I always seem to land up at Ottomanelli's Cafe on York between 85th and 86th which offers a passable Turkey burger.

The SoHo Diner on Spring Street has $5 recession burger. Not fantastic, by way of burgers, but you get your protein at a price.
