Taxi TV irritant or informative ?
What's your take on Taxi TV? Do you watch it at all or do you press the off switch as soon as you get into a cab to avoid being bombarded with infotainment? Personally it all depends on my mood there are some days when I enjoy watching it for the weather forecast, restaurant and movie reviews and even the news though when I am in the cab with another person my first reaction is to switch it off so I can converse in peace with my companion. You?

I ALWAYS turn that thing off. Though the GPS function is pretty cool for people who may not know where their going, and serves as something of a safeguard against those cabbies who would purposely take you the long way.

I don't pay attention to it if my run is short. Burt if I am going a bit of a distance, I will leave it on and watch the weather, especially if I heard the weather before leaving home. If I am with someone, I don't pay any attention to it and may turn it off.

Man, last thing I need is another few minutes in which someone's trying to sell me something.

I watch it, I have nothing else better to do. Especially the GPS! I will not allow a cab driver to rip me off, hahaha.

I hate it - especially because the same features are repeated over and over again. If it was actual TV, news, or novel stuff I might be more amenable to watching...

I hate this thing so much that I actually wait with my finger in front of the screen so that not even a full second of it is on before I shut it off. So pointless and lame and the loop is way too short. One cross town trip and you've heard the same thing 3-4 times.

Its only an annoyance until I realize I have no idea where the taxi is taking me. Then in a frenzy I get onto the map feature and try and figure out where I am but the map doesn't zoom out far enough for me to see any significant landmarks. So I freak out and tuck and roll out of the cab going 35. Just kidding I was fine. But really, those things are annoying.

@JenMac I hear you, JenMac. Those things make me angry, they're so stupid.

Ugh same -- I try to shut it off in milleseconds. I wish the TV part was separate from the map though. I like to see where I'm going on the street map, just don't want to watch crap while I'm doing it.
Then again, it's even better when I can tell where I'm going by looking outside....

Even if you turn the map on, though, doesn't it turn itself off eventually? Doesn't it switch back to commercials after a while? I seem to remember it doing that, but my cab rides are often a little hazy if you know what I mean.

@uptowngirl Haha, yeah - it has GPS but it's not the greatest. Like you said, it's really slow-moving.

Yeah, I suppose any iphone or other GPS-enabled smartphone would be preferable - my boyfriend uses the satnav app. on his dad's Blackberry to get around!

Yet another brilliant idea that doesn't work at all and cost a whole lot to implement...sigh.
