"Strip Mall Sprall at it's Boring Worst"
I have gone from indifferent to really disliking this space in Washington. There doesn't seem to be a defined "down town" area, and when you ask locals what they consider down town Lynnwood you get blank stares and some version of "...uh the mall?"
Unless you like shopping at Fred Meyer (there are two now) it is difficult to find a decent grocery store. You can drive out to Hwy 99 on the far west side and go to Trader Joes or Safeway. I believe there are no less than a dozen traffic lights between the mall area and Hwy 99 and one on 44th that you can easily sit through 3 cycles before you can turn onto 196th.
Traffic lights? Watch those rolling stops kids, Lynnwood has placed camera's on many of it's intersections to help generate revenue for the city, the policy are aggressive in their radar traps so much so that one local business is called "speed trap espresso" Go up the hill? 35 MPH, crest the hill? Drops to 30 for no reason other than they sit at the bottom on motorcycles trying to catch people who are picking up speed going down hill. On top of that rumor has it they have adjusted the lights with camera's to have shorter yellow lights to help catch more people.
There is a speed trap camera on 44th just north of 196th. One of my favorites is the speed trap over by the Keg on Alderwood Mall Blvd, when they are done ticketing the car a few blocks up the street, the motorcycle cops then DRIVE ON THE SIDEWALK back to their favorite spot.
I can't think of anything about this city that has any positive charicteristics. I guess I could say the kids at the mall are not as big of punks than Tacoma Mall or South Center Mall, actually they aren't bad at all now that I think about it.
I live and work in this city.
