"Truckee's "Banana Belt" community"

Glenshire is my home. My husband and I made a choice to move to Glenshire in 2006. We were looking for a sense of community, of neighborly spirit, as well as a good school, less snow, and good real estate values. Glenshire certainly delivers in all of these aspects, and then some. What we didn't expect to find: great neighbors who have become even better friends, trails to walk our dog and run on, a climate that suits a multitude of gardens (or chicken coops!), a feeling of peace when standing at the edge of Glenshire pond during a full moon, a top-notch pre-school, and a true sense of pride when pointing to Glenshire's plateau from I-80 and saying to our friends "that's our home". Home values are still incredible in my community, but see the rise and fall just like any other Truckee neighborhood. The homeowner's association is a hard-working association, and does a good job of maintaining our small cluster of amenities (clubhouse, pool, playground, tennis courts, and trails around the Glenshire Pond). While there could be some improvements, the HOA board members do a fairly good job of hearing the concerns and comments of its constituents, and have even enacted a few of the requests of its members (such as allowing people to have chickens and coops in their backyards). Glenshire homeowners are friendly, for the most part, and have pride in their properties. Traffic is light except for on the arterial roads, and it is common to see couples and kids walking or riding their bikes, walking their dogs while sipping a beverage, block parties, and in general, enjoying a cool, after-work stroll through the quieter neighborhoods. Many homeowners have dogs, and dog-owners have the option to walk their dogs on street or on the various trails in the community. Glenshire receives about 30% less snow than many parts of Truckee, contributing to a 4-season climate (as opposed to Tahoe Donner, which seems to have 3 seasons: winter, summer and fall). It is located 7 miles outside of downtown Truckee, which may feel like a long drive at first, but is no longer to drive than if you lived near the Equestrian Center in Tahoe Donner. Currently, Glenshire Road is undergoing construction to expand the road width, which will make it safer for serious bicyclists in the summer, and drivers in the winter. Also, the Legacy Trail, a paved trail which skirts Truckee River eastward from the Regional Park in Downtown Truckee towards Glenshire, has been approved to continue on, ultimately ending at the west entrance to Glenshire. This will be a huge positive for Truckee-Glenshire connectivity, and is slated to be completed in 2015.

"The Ultimate in High Sierra Living"

Martis Camp is an upscale golf community unlike any other. While the award-winning Tom Fazio golf course is the focal point during the summer, it is great overshadowed (literally) by Lookout Mountain at Northstar-at-California's ski area during the winter. Owners in Martis Camp have the unique experience of living on a golf course, but having a back door into one of Tahoe's friendliest ski resorts. Through the Martis Camp chair lift and Lookout Lodge, a member's only 8,000 square foot base lodge for Martis Camp owners only, skiers and riders start the day in style, and end the day in relaxation. In addition to these obvious marquee amenities, Martis Camp also boasts of many other activities, such as fishing in the stocked 3 acre fishing pond, relaxing with a good book and a cup of cocoa in The Lost Library, walking, bicycling or running the nearly 26 miles of interconnecting trails, enjoying a malt, playing a round of bowling, taking in a flick, or listening to an outdoor performance at the Family Barn, playing tennis at the Tennis Pavilion, gardening in the Community garden, enjoying a spa experience at The Lodge (and dine al fresca afterwards on The Lodge's back deck). The list goes on and on for family entertainment and activity. While the community is predominately vacation home-owners, there is still a very familiar feeling when visiting the amenities. The staff does an incredible job of making you feel not only welcome, but at home. You can't beat the surroundings, with majestic pines towering all around, views of the Pacific Crest, Lookout Mountain and the Carson Range from many homesites and most amenities, and National Forest land bordering 1/2 of the community property. If you have been bitten by the Sierra bug, and want to enjoy it in the ultimate sense, then Martis Camp was designed especially for you.
