Living in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago - whats it like?

Austin is a nice enough area, though the crime rate is a bit higher than I'd like. I personally don't love it here, and would not consider living here unless I found an absolutely amazing deal. It's decent, but nothing special. On the plus side it's pretty close to the heart of the city.

Austin is one of Chicago's largest neighborhoods in both population and area. Because of the high population it does sit at the high end of crime rankings. There are a lot of longtime residents doing what they can to try and change the current perception of this area.

There is a lot of amazing architecture in this neighborhood. Transportation options are also very good with both the green and blue lines giving you fast access to downtown.
