24 hour fitness in Boulder is a very nice center. All the equipment is well maintained and the staff is quite helpful. Not to mention that the monthly fees are affordable. I think I pay about $20 per month.

Crossfit Roots. If you haven't ever tried Crossfit, you must. As a Crossfit trainer, there is nothing that can shake a stick at the effectiveness of the programming. The staff at Crossfit Roots is professional and excellent.

Flatirons Athletic Club has been a staple in Boulder for many years for pro athletes. They've got a great staff and location. The equipment is not new, but as Colorado Athletic Club just purchased FAC, a facelift is coming. Enjoy!

Colorado Athletic is the newest and cleanest, however the equipment in my basement works for me.

I have been a member at several health clubs in Boulder. Hands down, the best place is 24 Hour Fitness located on Iris between 28th and 30th Street. They have have tons of newer equipment, certainly newer than other clubs. If the work out equipment begins to look shabby and/or has worn pads, et cetera; it should be rotated out of service with new equipment. In addition, 24 Hour has a variety of classes and the class schedule is well planned with all skill/strength levels. Costco has a deal now: $350 for 24 months or $15/month. I think that is quite reasonable.

Being a member of the YMCA has some benefits, as you can use multiple facilities, that have different perks (Mapleton for example has a great indoor pool, and Arapahoe just built an outdoor pool). Like a lot of rec centers, they have kid care included in certain memberships. If you're out in East Boulder County, folks seem to like Lakeshore Athletic Club. There is a climbing wall at the East Boulder Community Center.

You may have to put this question to a vote as there are lots of fitness centers in Boulder. A lot would depend on where you live and what is convenient to your home/work. In addition, which facilities have the equipment and classes you are looking for. I have been a member of Colorado Athletic Club for several years and I really like the variety of classes and their two saline pools. They also have nice jacuzzi/steamroom/sauna areas that are separate for men and women. There are always special events going on which keeps it fun and interesting. It is always very clean and the staff are very professional, super-fit and friendly.
