Is Bowery in New York City a good place to live for families with kids?

Not really. I have a friend with a baby that lives in the Bowery. But, it's not ideal. It's pretty crowded and there's a lot of ped and car traffic. Plus, it's really trendy right now but Bowery was a massive crack den only like five years ago so there's still some lingering riffraff.
