Good area to live near Atlantic Train Station...

I'm interested in moving to brooklyn but will need to take the train into Lynwood, Long Island every morning-- would anyone have a recommendation on an area to live that is close enough to the train, but also somewhat affordable, safe, and is enjoyable area? I'm a single mid 30's art and film enthusiast/student.
