What is it REALLY like to live in Bushwick?

My son (age 25) is moving to Bushwick soon. It seems that there are many conflicting opinions as to the neighborhood's safety, cleanliness, etc. Does anyone who actually lives there have an opinion they are willing to share? Thank you so much.
