"A lush looking little town on the eastern plains"
The town of Calhan lies directly east of the beautiful Black Forest on the eastern plains of Colorado. There are 785 residents here, with 92% of them being white and 4% being Hispanic. The most common industry here is construction, followed by agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting. The median household income here is $42,257 while the median average priced home is $173,489.
The town of Calhan has mostly single family homes, although there is a small apartment complex off of 8th Street. The homes in Calhan are very well kept for the most part, and being this far east it's surprising to see how many large, pretty trees there are. There are some really lovely streets in this quiet laid back town.
The schools in Calhan are all about average, although the high school rates higher than the rest when it comes to how students do on state testing standards.
There aren't many businesses in Calhan, apart from an auto parts store, small grocer's, liquor store, antiques shop, gas station and a Subway. Down 5th Street which is also Hwy. 24, you can see several abandoned buildings, although I don't know what type of businesses used to be there.
Overall, this seems like a nice, pleasant little town to call home.

"Calhan -El Paso County Fair Grounds and farms west of Springs"
Calhan is a small farming community just 25 miles northeast of Colorado Springs along HW 24. With only 800 residents the town seems very isolated and far from the Front Range even though the mountains are in the distance to the west not far away.
The community has its own school district called simply Calhan School District and is housed in one complex (pre-school to high school). El Paso County Fair Grounds are also in town and the single runway airport Calhan Airport just north of town. Cadillac Jack's Trading Post is a campground and RV park and more. It really is a hub within town and offers good view of the western sunsets.
Homes are more affordable and offer more land for your buck than in the Springs. Looking on a real estate website I saw a lot of nice ranch style homes going for around 150,000. There are also larger ranches with land and barns for 400,000--still a lot more reasonable than mountain property west of the Springs for example or on the direct outskirts of town.
