San Francisco Charity Events/Benefits for August 2010

Inspired by @Flowergirl I thought I'd start this post that tells people what charitable events/benefits are coming up and who it's benefiting.

August 21st (today) - San Francisco Street Food Festival is an event hosted by La Cocina that advocates for the creation of policies that support the formalization of mobile food vending in San Francisco (more info: http://www.sfstreetfoodfest.com/2010/about/)

August 22nd - Giant Wishes for Kids - The Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation has partnered with the San Jose Giants for a fun evening celebrating "Giant Wishes for Kids!" Annual 10k that happens in the East Bay and benefits Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center (an environmental education non-profit. I know we're getting into September but it came to mind immediately.

Great post, @Tracypie. This list is really indicative of the generosity and creativity that seem to prevail in this city. What a great list of fundraising ideas and charities...

And I saw the Marina Blvd being blocked off today on the sidewalk, seems like there is the VMworld 2010 Fun Run this weekend on Sunday - Aug 29th, benefits Save the Bay. http://www.active.com/running/san-francisco-ca/vmworld-fun-run-2010

Nice! I'd love to do a benefit run soon, but I'm a bit out of the running loop right now.

Here is a really cool Bay Area charity event that takes place all over the West Coast - it is a multi-day mountaineering event that benefits Bay Area Wilderness Training - a non-profit that trains leaders in at-risk youth to take their kids into the wilderness for the first time. The event is a bit committing (okay, a lot committing), but the reward is huge and it is a great organization to support: http://www.climbingforkids.org/
