Hi Sharon, I'm wondering if you could mention a little more about what you like. Here on this site, they give categories like, beach lover, country lover, or trendy & stylish. As an Executive Development & Life Coach, I've helped a lot of men and women identify their life path to fulfillment. Trendy folks often gravitate to metro areas, and since you said you're more of a village dweller, then perhaps Del Mar, La Jolla, Rancho Sante Fe, or Solana Beach for the more trendy end of the spectrum, and Encinitas, Carlsbad, or Oceanside. If San Diego proper appeals to you, being a little more populated than North County, there's many more options. Economics will be somewhat of a deciding factor. And again, the social milieux you prefer will, too. If Carmel is really your preference, you'll find it more spread out and less like a village, given the number of mall-like shopping areas. If you take a leisurely drive up the coast from La Jolla, you'll find lots of restaurants, shops, and people. If you go inland, there will be fewer. Hope this helps.
