What is crime like in Chelsea, New York City?

Chelsea is pretty safe, in general. It's a pretty busy neighborhood which is good because there are a lot of people out all the time. The only part I'm a little leery of is west of 9th after midnight. It's a little shakey around there at night because it's so quiet. Also, I would avoid the meatpacking border late at night because people get robbed semi often as they're leaving the nightclubs.
