Are there any areas of Chicago that are good for transitioning from single life to family life?

My suggestion is to look to the Northern neighborhoods close to Lincolnwood and Evanston. There are some really nice areas near there, and if you decide to settle down a bit more and move out of the city you won't necessarily have to move far, and the trains will get you back to the city in no time.
