Are there any basic, but good places to eat in The Loop? For American food?

Right in the Loop is one of the last remaining Bennigan's in the country. I worked at one in Iowa during college, and I love their food. It's not very healthy, as it's pretty greasy, but I love it and it's pretty much burgers and beer.
