Down Hill Skiing
Chicago is known for a lot of things, mountains are decidedly not one of them. But there are some places to go near by if you need a skiing fix, they are not like skiing the Rockies or Alps but they are good in a pinch. Wilmot Mountain, Granite Mountain, and C hestnut Mountain are three of the better ones. The first two are in Wisconsin and the third is in Galena, IL. So they are great for a three day weekend.
Chestnut Mountain is where my children started to ski. They have a great 'bunny hill' and even my three year old was able to handle it. The had good quality skiis for rent and the skiing was great- especially for a Midwest resort. My five year old was able to hold her own on the Acorn Trail even though it was her first time up on skiis.
We stayed at Eagle Ridge and had a townhouse so we were able to have a kitchen and more of a homey atmosphere and then drove over to Chestnut for skiing. My children are asking to go back again- like yesterday
