They don't call it Hell's Kitchen for nothing. It kinda is like being in Hell. It's one of my least favorite neighborhoods in Manhattan. I don't think there is anything redeeming about this place. The streets are ugly, there's no neighborhood feel and the rent's not even reasonable. Transportation isn't terrible but it's not great. And, there are too many tourists trickling over from Times Square. There aren't good restaurants and the only saving grace is if you happen to really like Broadway shows. You can only walk up to Bar Centrale so many times before you find yourself constantly going downtown to do things. I wouldn't recommend the area at all . . . in case you hadn't noticed.
