What are the best things to do in Cold Spring?

Well, for starters, Cold Spring has a really cool row of antique stores lining their Main Street, if that's your thing. There are also a bunch of great non-antique shops in the same area that are quite interesting and eclectic and even draw visitors from other towns and areas. Main Street also has a ton of wonderful dining options, many with outdoor patios. Or you can just saunter down the Main Street and marvel at all of the beautiful Victorian and Colonial architechture. You can hike up nearby Mount Taurus. If you want to learn about the history of the region, you can visit the Foundry School Museum. Hudson Valley Outfitters is housed in Cold Spring and they are the resource for canoeing and kayaking rentals and instruction. They can have you set up in no time and out enjoying the spectacular Hudson River. If you don't feel like boating, you can sidle up on a bench at the River's Edge Park and just relax and enjoy the scenery.

Also, if you don't have a car, Cold Spring has a trolley which runs back and forth from Cold Spring to Garrison, with a stop at Boscobel, the restored Federal-style house. Check to see if the house is open for tours. If you plan ahead in the summer, you can get tickets for a Hudson Valley Shakespeare production, bring a portable dinner, and picnic on the Boscobel grounds before the show. You can also take the trolley (or the Metro-North train), stop at Garrison, and catch a World's End Theater production (google them to see if a show is running.) On weekend and some week nights, there's usually live music in Cold Spring - at Whistling Willie's, The Silver Spoon, or The Lounge.

Just to sit at home and watch television or a movies with some hot eatables

I forgot all about the Hudson Valley Shakepeare Festival! We go every year- in fact, we went to both productions last year- Hamlet and the Comedy of Errors were both excellent.

If people watching is your thing, the benches around the marina area offer a spectacular show! The river and the mountains in the back-drop and the endless stream of visitors from varying age groups and different demographics can me this a fun way to spend time on a warm summer day.

We always like to have lunch at the Cold Spring Depot. It's not fancy, but it's fun. The warmer months are the best time to go because they have a nice patio and trains pass through pretty frequently.
