The neighborhood is gentrifying. There are more and more professionals buying beautiful homes at a great price. It is also becoming more diverse! I live on 35th and Prairie and I feel safe walking my dog at night and allowing my children to play outside unsupervised. Our neighbors are very welcoming and polite. And we all seem to watch over one another and take pride in our homes by maintaining them clean. There is your typical riffraff hanging out on the corner at Jimmy's Food on 35th doing god knows what but police do serve and protect and get their lazy sagging asses out. I really wish Chicago would pass a city ordinance for wearing your pants so disgustingly low because A My 5 and 10 yr old should not have to see that and B It's a disgrace to society.

pookeye Hello you mentioned you life on 35th and Prairie, I was looking at a home out there, I'm an asian american with a latino wife, I was wondering how safe is it at night? looks like 35th street can get some interesting characters, that I am not sure how I feel about my wife being outside at night. trying not to judge of course, but am really interested in the house, but am wary about the neighborhood. I live in Pilsen, so not expecting lincoln park or anything like that.

Douglas isn't too bad as far as crime goes. I've felt comfortable enough in the area, walking the streets, so you shouldn't have too many problems.

Douglas has a pretty low crime rate overall. Like the rest of the city, there is some crime, but this is a relatively safe neighborhood.
