"One Word: Beautiful"

I describe Eastmoreland in one word: beautiful. If you desire to live in a neighborhood, filled with history, giant, mature trees, with a well regarded liberal arts college in town (Reed’s College), then this is the place for you. Filled with professionals, doctors, lawyers, college faculty and very family friendly this is highly regarded community that not surprisingly, is out of the price range for many. Sigh.

Homes in Eastmoreland are varied in architectural style with most being built in the 1920’s and 30’s. The neighborhoods are well established and cared for. You won’t find many fixer uppers though on occasion they do come on the market.

Eastmoreland is home to some of the more beautiful parks in the area, including the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens which is available for special events. The Eastmoreland Golf Course is an historic site that was established in 1916 and is ranked as one of the top public golf courses in American by Golf Digest.

There is not much shopping in the area, however the Farmer’s Market is popular when it operates from May through September. With downtown Portland not far, this is really a vibrant, family oriented neighborhood.

"Picturesque and Stately Neighborhood"

Eastmoreland is really a gorgeous neighborhood and one of the gems of the city. First of all, the trees in this area are stunning. You will find some of the largest trees in the whole city. The homes are rather impressive. Most of them are quite large and pricey. You will need some serious bucks to get a home in this area. However, every so often a run down Bungalow or Ranch home in needs of rehabbing can be found.

Although Eastmoreland doesn't have much in the way of shopping or restaurants, they are easily accessible through a short bike ride. Sellwood is very nearby and has a ton of fun shops and interesting restaurants.

Eastmoreland is built to surround the Reed Campus, but you won't see too many students living in the neighborhood. After all, it is really not appropriate for a college budget!

Another major perk of Eastmoreland is the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens. This attraction has a duck pond, bridges, waterfalls and thousands of Rhododendrons and Azaleas.

Golfers will be slightly drooling at the thought of living near the Eastmoreland Golf Course, which is the second oldest in all of Portland. In fact, many of the homes overlook this beautiful course!

"Beautiful Homes Surrounding Golf Course and Parks"

Eastmoreland is known for the Eastmoreland Golf Course. In fact, many Portland residents don't realize there is also a neighborhood by this name. The neighborhood surrounding the golf course consists of upscale, early 20th century houses occupied by professionals and families. There aren't many businesses in the neighborhood, save for the Eastmoreland Market & Kitchen, which has been there for decades and is a popular local spot.

Eastmoreland has long been associated with green spaces. The golf course has been there for nearly a century, and the rest of the neighborhood is filled with mature trees. Other parks in the neighborhood include a beautiful rhododendron garden. This is a seriously 'green' neighborhood, making it a good choice for those who work in a more urban area of Portland and want a home where they can get away from it all.

Homes in the area tend to be large and older. The area has an inviting and relaxing aura. Considered a desirable neighborhood, homes tend to be relatively expensive. The traditional, colonial styling of most of the houses has made it a popular neighborhood for East Coast transplants. Many of the houses feature large lawns and well-cared-for gardens. This makes an interesting contrast with Reed College, the campus located just off the northern edge of Eastmoreland. Reed College is known for being a progressive and somewhat 'hippie' school.

  • Upscale, inviting neighborhood
  • Beautiful houses
Cons
  • No business district
  • Expensive houses
