"Artist Haven"
One the many suburbs near downtown Atlanta is Garden Hills. This is a suburb that has everything for the prospective resident. Garden Hills is located near Atlanta and the Buckhead area. It is conveniently located near Peachtree Road and Piedmont Road.
One thing that is notable about Garden Hills is the shade that it provides the area. It also has a number of family and kid friendly attractions including a number of schools and churches in the vicinity. It also has a duckpond, as well as 3 major parks that make their home in the region. It also has a number of fine dining establishments.
Shopping opportunities abound in the region due to the proximity of Buckhead and its antiques, art galleries and other shopping options. One of the attractions that is present in the Garden Hills Buckhead area is the Atlanta Artists Center which is a collection of over 20 artists that feature their work for the area.
The Garden Hills area is one neighborhood in Atlanta suburbs that is worth investigating. It has something for young and old, couples, singles, families alike. It is a favored suburb in the area.

"Tolerable Buckhead"
If you’ve read my other Buckhead-inspired posts you’ll gather I’m not exactly a black-card-carrying member of Atlanta’s excessive uptown. I did, however, live there briefly, and when I did I lived in Garden Hills; in a windowless room in a teensy condo in a fabulous yellow stucco eyesore that began as a luxury hotel in the 1920s. The Alhambra (you can’t miss it from Peachtree) happened to abut the Garden Hills neighborhood in the rear.
Such things are not unusual in B-head.
I loved to hop on my rusty blue Schwinn cruiser and cycle through the aptly named neighborhood’s rolling, winding streets; past the iconic old Buckhead homes with their aged brick and their chandeliered porches and their sweet little front gardens. I adored that I could walk to Trader Joe’s to pick up a budget organic dinner, or splurge at an adorable cottage-turned-restaurant nestled among the neighborhood’s preponderance of cottage-turned-hair salons. I still have terribly romantic memories about slurping mussels in front of the fireplace at Anise – an evening which would have been even more perfect had not the older, crotchetier couple next to us been barking at their server the entire time.
The Atlanta International School – which is private and, I hear, quite excellent – has its campus here, which is a plus for all those parents hoping to raise bi children. (Bi-lingual, that is – it’s a requirement at AIS). There is also a neighborhood pool that is always boiling with bodies in high summer, and sheltered, stop-sign-studded streets on which shouting children can ride bikes, skateboards, scooters (and anything else their parents buy them) with impunity.
Bottom line, if you don’t like Buckhead, there is a chance you might like Garden Hills, or, at least, not hate it. Cheers!

"Understated and wonderful"
What a lovely, tight-knit community. You can feel it as you enter on East Wesley Road from Piedmont Road, that this is a neighborhood that cares!
Well-kept garden, tidy hedges and inviting sidewalks are everywhere. I adore this little, family-oriented neighborhood of Garden Hills, especially during major holidays, like Christmas or Halloween. It seems that every home is tastefully decorated in all ways imaginable at holiday time. Even before they installed the speed bumps, you can not help but want to drive slowly in this neighborhood to admire the architecture of the cape cods “cottages, watch the families jog with 'Fido' over the wooden terrain, and see children swimming at the Garden Hills community pool in the summertime. Garden Hills is central to everything I love about Atlanta: beautiful cherry blossom tree-lined streets, proximity to Peachtree Road- and its great Buckhead shopping and restaurants locations, and Atlanta nightlife. It is even central to great institutions like Piedmont Hospital, and Christ the King Catholic Church (and school), the Atlanta International School – and three Starbucks. (Yes, I believe Starbucks IS an institution!)
Definitely an understated, yet upscale neighborhood with the best Atlanta has to offer, it is an ideal place to buy and home and raise a family.
