"A great little town to stop at for an hour or a day"
Georgetown is a town located on I-70 on your way up or down from the mountains. There is a good sized lake here which has fishing and boating and within the town there are numerous little shops and boutiques. Many of them are very touristy, but some of them have very cool stuff regardless. There are several restaurants in town, both independently owned and some chain type places such as Starbucks. The townspeople here are all friendly, nice and helpful.
If you have the time it's well worth the money to take a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The best time of year is mid-October when you can see all the fall colors changing on the trees, although it's a fun ride anytime of the year. Also, if you're lucky, you can often spot Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep alongside I-70. There is a place to pull over to see them, but often you will drive right past them on your way into Georgetown from Denver.
This town is situated in a beautiful area which has hiking, skiing, and many other outdoor sports nearby. During the cold winter months there is a great rec center you can take advantage of if you're looking to stay inside. It has a weight room, racquetball courts, swimming pool, and many other amenities.
Traffic in town is little to none, but on I-70 it can get very backed up here with bumper to bumper traffic on busy holiday weekends and during the peak skiing season. That is really the only drawback of this gorgeous little mountain town.
