"Nice but sleepy"
Granada Hills is a community in the Valley that is quite up and out of the way. The closest freeway is the 118 and not a lot of people really use this freeway. Some Angelenos have never even heard of this freeway: that is how far out Granada Hills is. Like the name indicates, a lot of the town is situated in the hills. The streets here are quite lush and serene and the houses are sprawling. There are some really architecturally famous houses in this neighborhood and they have been used a number of times in films, television and commercials. The streets are shady and quiet here and it really feels like a small, upper middle class town that is nowhere near Los Angeles.
The part of Granada Hills that is situated outside of the actual hills isn't quite as nice although it isn't terrible. It can be quite hot without all of the greenery that the hilly area has and it seems really rural (i.e. a lot of horses around).
The restaurants are all pretty much big chains and the nightlife is non-existent. But, if you are raising small kids or are retired and don't have to drive into the city all that often, the place is great. Too sleepy for me, though.
