"Quiet and somewhat removed"
Greenwich Street as it runs through Soho is a little far south and a little far west for most people which is probably why it's so quiet. It's a really pretty street as far as green and older apartment buildings, but there are no restaurants, bars, theatres . . . nothing in the way of things to do. Greenwich isn't far from activities but having nothing on the street takes away from any sort of neighborhood vibe. The street doesn't seem residential though it, largely, is.
The corner of Greenwich and Houston has the advertising firm Saatchi and Saatchi in a massive building. I did a job at this place before and the building is so big and new, it looks kind of out of place in this area. Most of the buildings around here are older cast-iron or brick apartments and this one is very noticeable. There are some really cool buildings around King that have massive lofts in them. And, there isn't a lot of traffic around here despite the massive Saatchi building. The Villager, a little downtown paper full of awesome counts its headquarters at the corner of Greenwich and Canal. It has been around since 1933 and I hope it stays around despite what's going on with the printed word these days. Other than those few businesses and apartment buildings, there's really nothing else going on in the Soho part of Greenwich Street.
