Greenwich is similar, aesthetically, to the West Village and the northern part of the East Village (around Irving Place). Energy-wise, it's really unique. NYU has completely taken over the neighborhood, so there are college kids everywhere. But, there's a lot of older people that have lived there since the beat generation and they still hit up one of the various jazz clubs and restaurants. You will, legitimately, never run out of things to do in Greenwich. But, because it's crowded and has a lot of young people, it can be dirty, packed and noisy at pretty much any time of day or night. The buildings are old and beautiful and there's a lot of history.
