Parking!

Hi,

I just moved to Franklin/Hickory. I love the location, but parking has been a nightmare and it's only been 1 week. I commute to Alameda for work using my car and search for parking nightly. Being a female, I feel safer with a garage so I'll be parking at the Performance Arts Center starting April 1 (they only start the first of the month). Until then, I've been parking around McAllister/Buchanan, but do not feel safe walking to my apartment when I park at night.

Any suggestions on safe places with easy parking where I do not need a permit and can park more than 2 hours over the weekend? I've looked at Craigslist, garages, parking permits- any feedback/suggestions for those who are familiar with the area are helpful.

Thank you

I notice that California Parking has a parking lot right at the corner of Franklin and Hickory. Check out CaliforniaParking.com; I don't know if this is place at which you have already gotten parking. If not, you should check it out.

I totally empathize with you--you are right by one of the most dangerous areas in the city and long term it is asking for trouble. Luckily you only have one more week to go. You should be okay if you just stay aware of your surroundings, walk quickly and have your phone ready just in case. (Or you might consider staying with a coworker or ridesharing with someone else who works in the city?)

I don't know--just throwing some ideas out there. Good luck.
