"A neighborhood with a sad past"
Heather Ridge is a neighborhood that seems to go through a lot of changes in some areas. The corner of Peoria Street and Iliff Avenue has always had businesses and restaurants. Unfortunately, some years back there was a Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant here where one of the staff went crazy and shot four of his fellow employees. It was a very sad thing to happen to this neighborhood. The restaurant closed down and it seems that for many years after the restaurants that came in afterwards opened and closed in a relatively short amount of time. Whether this had anything to do with what happened probably isn't known for sure, but in the last several years the majority of the restaurants and businesses have stayed with the exception of a whole foods market.
The high schoolers in this area attend Overland High School which was once considered a really great school. Although it's still in the coveted Cherry Creek School District, it is one of the lower performing schools. Prairie MIddle School, which is right next to Overland, has about the same academic results as the high school.
Many of the homes in this area have been here since the 1980s but remain in really good shape and are taken care of. There are also condos, apartments, and duplexes. Although it's surrounded by busy streets, they aren't the worst.
