Hegewisch, Chicago - good neighborhood for families with kids?

No, Hegewisch isn't exactly stellar for families with kids. It isn't very safe, the schools aren't terribly good, and it's way on the South Side, so you're not in the fun parts of the city. Not recommended.

Hegewisch is a small mid-western feeling neighborhood. It is about as far out of Chicago as you can get while still being in Chicago. It would be a good neighborhood for families and is considered very safe.
