Are the homes really spread out in Hyde Park?

They can be; depends on where in Hyde Park you go. There are some spaces off the beaten path or away from the main activity centers where the houses aren't really close together, but then there are side streets off of Route 9 where the houses are a little more densely packed (this happens particularly as you get towards the main part of town).
