As one might expect with the way the economy and housing market have been over the last several years, the value of real estate has steadily declined in LaGrange as it has in many other places. I pulled up a chart of home values in the town over the last five years, and the trend is pretty much straight down with only a few slight variations.
The average home value (according to zillow.com) is now at $246,000, which is down over 8% from this time last year. For purposes of comparison, 5 years ago, it was $368,000. That should tell you just how much of a beating real estate has taken.
This average is still higher than Dutchess County's, which is at about $228,000, but LaGrange has seen one of the biggest housing value declines of all the towns in the county. Good news for buyers, bad news for sellers. As for how that value compares to the rest of the county, it's roughly middle of the road.
