Things to do in Little Italy, New York City

Looking for things to do in Little Italy? Try these out and add some more if you know about Little Italy.

1. Ferrara Café - at 195 Grand Street, New York, NY. Stop into Ferrara's for a canoli or a great cup of espresso and relax in the ambiance of old Italian charm

2. The Feast of San Gennaro - Mott and Mulberry Streets, New York, NY. If you are in the city in early September the feast is something that you have to see. Street vendors open the street for one entire week to pedestrian traffic only for some great Italian food and music.

3. Lombardi's Pizza - at 32 Spring Street, New York, NY. Often claiming to be the first NY pizzeria Lombardi's serves up one of the best pies in the city.

4. Gelato vendors - Little Italy, New York, NY. Walk around the district and you will find street vendors all over the place in the spring and summer that are serving up Gelato. The Italian ice cream is a favorite in the area and each vendor has different flavors so look around for something that looks truly interesting.

The bakery at Ferrara's is amazing. They have these things called cheminees (chocolate chimney filled with chocolate mousse). You must try one!

Everything in this city comes with some superlative claim--"the best", "the oldest"--but I have to say Lombardi's does some fine, fine pizza.

Ignoring the fact that Little Italy is more of a historical remnant rather than an actual, currently viable place in New York City? The Storefront for Art and Architecture on Kenmare, near Petrosino Square, is rather delightful. Moving panels and parts, gotta see it yourself. Wait, is that actually in Little Italy, though? Who knows, Little Italy has kind of disappeared, hasn't it, into a handful of restaurants spread over a couple of blocks?

Some tourists asked me the way to Little Italy a couple of weeks ago and I had to explain to them they were chasing ghosts.

I went down Mulberry St around September to meet a client there and I passed the The Feast of San Gennaro. All I saw was wall-to-wall street vendors. I heard Italian music and I never smelled such great food since being in NYC.
