Which neighborhood to live in LA?

I'm moving to LA very soon, i'll be working in Santa Ana and my fiance will be working in Hawthorne. We've been looking around long beach, cerritos, or westminster area. But really have no sense of what the best place would be with regards to traffic and safe neighborhoods?? any suggestions are appreciated!
