It's not the prettiest part of the city but what it lacks in aesthetics, it definitely makes up for in bars and restaurants. LES has a pretty lively nightlife situation happening. The demographic is generally younger and hipster. It's always loud, dirty and is crazy on the weekends. The rent is on the lower side as far as downtown Manhattan goes, but it's not gritty or crime ridden, per se. I would live in the Lower East Side if I didn't live in my neighborhood. You never run out of stuff to do if you can stand the noise, trash and people that look like they're homeless but they're actually not.
