Lower East Side, New York City - good neighborhood for families with kids?

No. It's a really young neighborhood. There are a lot of hipsters and college kids and about two bars every 10 feet. It's pretty dirty and perpetually loud. And, I've seen things in this neighborhood that no one should see. It's really fun, but it's definitely not for kids.
