"A diamond in the rough"
I've been to many of the city and towns in and around Luzerne County, and it's like Pennsylvania's best kept secret. The Wyoming Valley boasts some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. Misericordia University and Wilkes University are both amazing colleges that are easy to navigate. We've recently decided to relocate there. It's where my wife is from, and her whole family still lives there. It's pretty much a stereotypical small town, and it's not the most culturally diverse by any stretch of the imagination, but I never feel out of place when I'm there. It's a mostly German/Polish community. So there are lots of places to get haluska, perogies, and pagash, and there's a bar-restaurant in Wilkes-Barre called Arena where they serve delicious cocktails in fish bowls. The best find for us, however, is Red Rooster. We eat brunch there every time we'd visit. Houses there are older, but they are reasonably priced. There's plenty of places to hike, and it's located close to Bushkill Falls. So overall, I'd recommend it as a place to live.
