"Best Kept Secret"
Madison Heights has been a pleasant surprise after moving here. It is quiet, there are tons of parks in walking distance and most have updated equipment. My neighbors are friendly and have plowed my snow in the winter during snow storms. Housing prices are low, comparable to Hazel Park but much lower crime. The police respond quickly and will come out for minor issues. There are activities for kids all the time. The Red Oaks Nature Preserve always has activities and hiking through the woods at the Preserve is a great place to get away from the city. The down side is that there is not a downtown area in which to walk around. There is one really good elementary and the rest are average or below. However, there is Schools of Choice for all of Oakland County which will allow your children to go to school outside of Madison Heights. There is not much of a nightlife. If you are looking for a quiet place with low crime, a place to raise your kids, Madison Heights is a great place to consider.
