"Living In the Eastern Sierra"

Bishop California is a picturesque town nestled at the base of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The surrounding area has a population of approximately 11,000 residents and sits at an elevation of 4,147 feet. Bishop is a popular destination point for recreational enthusiasts including, rock climbers, hikers, skiers, hunter, fisherman, landscape photographers, OHV riders and rock hounds. With some of the world’s most scenic views Bishop has easy access to Mt. Whitney, Death Valley, Yosemite and Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. With so much to do on any given day it is truly a blessing to be surrounding by God’s most beautiful creations. Depending on the ages of your children there are so many different choices available to you. Whether you like hiking, biking, skiing or fishing the Eastern Sierra has something to offer to all ages. Imagine having the availability at any given time to jump in your car after school on a Friday, drive only minutes to evergreen forests, hike in majestic mountains, and fish in a variety of local lakes or sit in a natural hot spring with the joys of your life.

Keough’s Hot Springs is one of my favorite destinations after a long hard work week. This magnificent gem was established in 1919 and is a one of a kind experience as the largest natural hot springs pool in the Eastern Sierra. For the more adventurous type Mount Whitney is just minutes away. Mount Whitney is the highest mountain in the contiguous United States or the lower 48 states. The only American mountains higher than Whitney are in Alaska, which has seven higher peaks including Denali. Mount Whitney is the second highest ultra-prominent peak in the lower 48 U.S. states with 10,071 feet of prominence and the 81st most prominent peak in the world. The 10.7-mile Mount Whitney Trail, 22 miles round-trip, is the most popular route to the summit. It gains 6,100 feet (1,900 meters) from the trailhead at Whitney Portal 13 miles west of the town of Lone Pine. I have mentioned some world renowned destinations however; the truth of the matter is I personally fell in love with the community of Bishop. The innumerable number of quality relationships formed in this little town is astonishing whether you are adult or children forming relationship in elementary and high school. Every relationship has its own significance. Quality time with your children is so important and living in the Eastern Sierra just makes that more enjoyable. Let’s face it, increased finances enable us to do more things and enjoy things that we otherwise would not be able to afford. What a blessing however, the Eastern Sierra is free and your time and love is always available to give freely.

These are just some of the places to visit in and around Mammoth Lakes, CA. The skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and other outdoor activities are very popular in the area and for good reason.
