When it comes to college kids they need/desire three things; a place to study, affordable stores and places to hang after those grueling classes. Manayunk provides all of this and more along Main Street. There are plenty of cafes and bookstores for studying. The strip also holds stores, such as clothing, bike shops, housewares, which are for those on a budget. And there is a thriving nightlife with many options for these young adults to relax. Also, the neighborhood is made up of college kids and young professionals, which means students will be welcomed by the same.

East Falls is more populated by young families and retirees. There aren't many stores and very few restaurant options. Per many of the opinion websites, many of the East Falls dwellers aren't fans of college kids and there are many complaints from residents.

Both of these neighborhoods are great for students at all Philadelphia universities. Students can easily get to the city (Temple, University of the Sciences, UPenn, Drexel) via the R5 train that runs right along the main streets of East Falls and Manayunk. Living in East Falls is probably best for Philadelphia University, whereas Manayunk may be better for those at St. Joes and the colleges on the Main Line.

In my opinion, Manayunk is better for students because of the dining and nightlife options. Residents of Manayunk are mostly college or young professionals that either commute for work or school. Being a student in Manayunk, you'll blend right in and be able to meet new people at every turn.
