Is the Second Avenue Subway construction going to affect you?

There is no doubt that when the Second Avenue Subway is commissioned in 2017 its going to greatly ease the rush and congestion on the 4,5,6 subway lines. I for one cant wait to see that happen. Just today I was walking down Second Avenue in the 80's and 70's and noticed that construction of the subway seemed to be proceeding quite rapidly though I do know many residences and retails businesses are going to be affected. Are you one of them?

Am I the only one who thinks seven years is inexcusably long to do some repairs? Seven years? The MTA never ceases to astonish me with their incompetence and corruption...Seven years?

Apparently the much delayed construction which now may not see the light of day is causing much inconvenience to a ton of people and businesses currently.

Eminent domain is an important, but difficult issue. It's hard to make a case for it when you see the instances of vulnerable people who are directly affected by it. I still think it's an important process, otherwise none of our public works would exist to benefit us all, but you can only hope the MTA really does make an effort to minimize the damage to individuals.

@Uraniumfish: I've seen how MTA workers do their job. I can tell you stories. As for the construction, I live a little lower than Midtown and so the construction hasn't affected me yet. We'll see if it does.

@hhusted I dont think it will for the moment.. this is the first phase which is being built from 125th to 63rd Street.Here are the details of the projects ..though I doubt it will be completed in my lifetime... taking into account all the delays..though I must admit a second subway line to serve the UES is sorely needed...

I live in Park Slope, and am not especially dreading any construction... It's sad to see that people are losing their homes over a subway line, though. And after people like the Riedis are forced to move out of their $1,200 3-bedroom on the UES, where are they going to be able to find a similar deal? Hopefully they can somehow afford a major rent hike or are dying to move to the Bronx.
