Jet Blue attendant overheats

Maybe the NYC heat got to him or flying has just become way stressful nowadays but in a bizarre incident a Jet Blue flight attendant cursed out a passenger who got up to retrieve his hand luggage before the all clear sign from the crew.

I actually sympathize with the flight attendant Steven Slater as I have been on innumerable flights when this happens and it really gets my goat ..yes we all want to deplane and get off but can you wait and where are you going to go too the immigration line? suppose there is already a looong line there and even if you clear it what guarantee do you have that your luggage will get off the carousel equally fast ??
I did write a blog post about this for one the hotel blogs that I used to write for as the pushing and shoving to get off a plane makes me mad.(especially on Indian carriers)
anyway I guess Slater was out of line for he is in a service industry where we are taught that the customer is always right!

Ugh...this was on every news show last night! It's pretty funny, I have to say. I mean, why did the guy run away?

I can understand his being annoyed - I hate getting off planes myself, and usually just sit and read for a while until most people have gone. After I get my stuff from the overhead, that is (and after the plane has come to a halt of course).

I've never been to India, but found Italians to be mad and unable to form proper queues, so I can only imagine.

But that guy Slater was way out of line when he swung himself out the emergency slide and ran through a restricted area to get to his car. Craziness!

When you consider the working conditions? Cramped quarters, whiny, demanding people, barely room to breathe, certainly no space to yourself for even 5 minutes, and those flights can be looooong. I've sometimes watched the flight attendants in coach, wearing their cheap polyester attendant outfits, and forced to show you the friggin emergency exits in the most humiliating ritual imaginable, and thought: Yeah, it's only a matter of time before somebody snaps in a job like this.

So, no, I'm not all that surprised, whatever the guy's reasons were.

@Uraniumfish But that guy had been a flight attendant for at least a decade - some long period of time. I can't pity the guy's working conditions - he picked 'em. There must be something he liked about it to keep doing it for so long. And if not, that's his problem.

@uptowngirl HA: "Who hasn’t wanted to tell someone at their job to f*** off, grab a beer and then proceed to exit via a slide?"

I think that guy has just coined a fantastic new term: going "Slater" on someone.

@Everyone here's the whole Slater tale..seems it was a female passenger who ignited the whole incident

After all that he wanted his job back! Man, if committing three felonies while at work isn't a cry of "I hate my job!" I don't know what is.

Guys, this reads like an elementary spat among fifth graders: and the teacher has to step in a slap all kinds of charges and fines on them both.

@BroadwayBK Yeah, and he clearly hates his job and should stay far away from any gig that is similar.

What I don't understand is why so many people are showing their support for this guy. On the news they're calling him a celebrity and making much ado about his fifteen minutes of fame - but I just have no respect for his behavior. I mean, yes - sharing overhead bins and waiting to get off a plane are not fun things to do, but these are things that people have to put up with when they fly. There's no getting around them. If these things are so unbearable to you, then maybe you shouldn't work on an airplane. And yes, it sounds like that woman passenger was awful to him, but he acted just as badly as she did.

I just had to laugh at the amount of attention this guy is getting. It's such a non-story.

This guy is a legend! An absolute legend! This guy's problem wasn't the conditions of flying, it was the passenger who hit him in the head with luggage, refused to apologize, and called him a "mofo." That would have driven me pretty crazy too!

@neversleeps: I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. This guy said what everyone has wanted to say to their job at some point in time. If I were gonna go out as a flight attendant, I can't think of a better way than grabbing a beer and hopping out the emergency slide. It's so awesome to me.

@JenMac Agreed, but then it's a little pathetic to try to get your old job back. If you're going to go out with that much of a bang, you have to keep from whimpering after or it ruins the whole thing.

@JenMac Yeah, you're not exactly going out with a bang if you beg for your job back afterward. Tell 'em off or don't.

Maybe the flight attendants should just have a beer BEFORE they get on the plane, and try to relax a little.

@Everyone I had an extremely pleasant flight and was served by a young, good looking flight attendant who was extremely helpful too. I flew on Jet Airways which is a private airline that operates within India and internationally too.
