Rudy's Kid arrested for shoplifting in Manhattan
Almost everybody credits Giuliani as being instrumental in cleaning up NYC and bringing rampant crime under control. Well the ex-mayor seems to have got a slap in his face as his daughter, who is a student at Harvard was recently arrested for shoplifting @ a Sephora store in the city.
Why in the world would she do it? just to spite her estranged father or its a power trip?

Yeh, kids going through their selfish, attention-grabbing teenagehood. How embarasing for her.

@Uraniumfish she's pretty dumb isn't she? most stores in NYC are outfitted with CCTV's and wot out ..and not to mention those security tags..when I happen to set off one of those alarms while exiting a store I always cringe with embarrassment as I always think that people are thinking I am shoplifter not the victim of a store clerk's carelessness.

Haaaa! That's life punching you in the face, isn't it?
And @uptowngirl She is very stupid! Sephora is one of those stores with more than one security guard roaming around... Harvard students these days, I tell you.

A student at Harvard? Seriously? And she must be able to afford makeup, even at Sephora prices. I mean really....really...

@ajadedidealist There are scholarship kids going even to Harvard, so not everybody is wearing luxury goods on campus.
That said, I doubt Rudy's kid is one of the scholarship cases, unless Rudy has made some terrible investments in the last few years.

Yeah, I don't think Giuliani's kid is a Harvard charity case. And she likely had some sweet connections before she even applied.

Ha ha, you guys. No political kid tops that of Sarah Palin, anyway. That girl gave an interview to US Magazine, of all things. Not that anything seems to hurt Palin's popularity with grizzly mamas. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/sarah-palin-mama-grizzlie_b_666642.html)

What I find weird is her daughter getting all in the poor woman's face for a second. That girl is momma-whipped.

@BroadwayBK That's a pretty good analysis of what makes Palin strike a cord with people. It's certainly more useful than ridiculing Palin, which doesn't get to the real problem.

@BroadwayBK It really is striking that with so many problems facing the country and Congress the pathetic broken mess that it is, people would get taken in with Palin's hokey non-statements. She's such a freakin' lightweight.

@uptowngirl Do you mean her statements make them appear macho in comparison?
@Uraniumfish That video of Palin makes her seem like such a snide...imbecile. She needs to learn how to smile and nod and keep walking like any other politician would if they were being attacked on the street.

@uptowngirl Her appeal with the GOP big boys is not hard to understand...she's a pretty good looking woman who knows her way with a fishing rod. I was referring to her popularity with regular people. She's not addressing any actual issues, and yet she has "supporters." But given that she really behaves more like a celebrity than as a politician, we should probably call them "fans."

@Uraniumfish, NeverSleeps Right? And it's not clear what exactly she's "advocating" in any political sense of the term. She just enjoys making off the cuff pronouncements without having to know anything about anything. Like Uraniumfish said, a lightweight. I think at this point she's drunk on her own celebrity status, hence the snide attitude. As BroadwayBK mentioned, any real politician would know to nod and keep walking.

I used to think Palin was a blithering idiot. Now...I'm not sure. I believe her policies are idiotic, and I believe she's ignorant - but I'm convinced that woman knows what she's doing in terms of political smarts far more than she lets on; she plays the "poor little me" helpless victim card, but she knows what's what. And that's what scares me. I can't believe I long for the days for naive, incompetent, and yet ultimately (I believe) well-intentioned/misguided Dubya. Those seem like the good old days of non-terrifying Republicans.

I absolutely think Dubya was far more manipulative and conniving than his little teddy bear face ever let on. Just look at the vice pres he was buddying up with, and suddenly he doesn't seem so innocent and well intentioned.
Remember the way they jumped on the Sept 11 issue as a way to invade Iraq! It was all so absurd; everyone lost their minds! And all the lies the administration told regarding WMDs and whatnot - how were they not manipulative?! Incompetent, sure, and maybe misguided - but not well-intentioned. Unless maybe being self-serving is somehow being well intentioned.

@ajadedidealist Let's not evaluate political figures the way we would evaluate teddy bears, shall we? I agree with NeverSleeps that Dubya wasn't all that innocently well intentioned. How about we hold people responsible for their actions, most especially if they got themselves elected to one of the most powerful offices in the world. Somehow I don't think he innocently stumbled into the job of leader of the free world.

Just because the person happens to be the son or daughter of a famous person, doesn't make that person immune to the pressures of society. He just got involved in the wrong crowd or made wrong decisions.

@uptowngirl He totally stole Florida. I was under the legal voting age at the time, but I remember when it came on the news that Gore had won Florida, because, well, that's where I lived at the time. And then the next day... there was nothing but hanging chad chaos.

@hhusted we have seen the same thing in India..the dynastic rule in a so called Democracy which started with Jawaharlal Nehru then his daughter Indira Gandhi, her son Rajiv Gandhi and they are now saying that his son Rahul Gandhi will be the next prime minister of India which is apparently the world's largest democracy. Some people are outraged by this but in the absence of a strong opposition there is no stopping this family.

@Broadwaybk - indeed about Bush stealing Florida. I don't know why - I think Bush was an appalling president, but I'm more inclined to think of him as stupid enough to believe some seriously amoral advisers (Cheney, for starters) and somewhat coasting into the job as a result of his lineage, rather than outright malevolent the way some other Republicans, I'd argue, are. Either that or Bush was a really - really good teddy bear...

@Ajadedidealist: Many people I talked to over the years have confirmed my suspicions. Bush got elected because his father wanted him there. Why? So Bush Sr. would have the chance to run this country again as he saw fit to. He wanted to use his son as his pawn so he could finish what he started. The election was fixed and most everyone I talked to told me that. I even talked to politicians in states out in the west, about a month before election day, who told me Bush would win the election because his father wanted him in there.
By the way, I am referring to Bush Jr's first term as president not second one. Whether you know this or not, the Bush's are multi-billionaires. During the 90's, they had a lot of power. It wasn't till the end of Bush's second term that America knew they would not have to deal with another four years of Bush again.

@hhusted no that's not going to happen. India is a two party democracy and unfortunately the opposition is too fragmented and doesnt inspire much confidence so people choose to go with the lesser evil so as to speak.

I don't agree, @hhusted. Or rather, I don't think Bush Sr. was really in control second time around (although I agree that Senior's clout helped a lot in getting him into the Oval Office.) Bush the Former was a decent president - I don't think he agreed with plenty of his son's more scatterbrained decisions
