Just found this rather charming, rather strange site where people post announcements about flirtations and missed connections they had with strangers on the subway, in hopes of finding them again:

I already look for myself in the missed connections (http://newyork.craigslist.org/mis/) enough as it is - now I guess I have another website to prowl in search of the love of my life searching for me.....

Adorable! For better or for worse, though, my kindle avoids the You're Reading a Sexy Book mutual flirtations that occur whenever I'm reading something particularly hipster-friendly (Russian classics, Baudelaire, etc). Then again, I can occasionally dip into embarrassing reading without anyone being the wiser! Have people been spotting kindle/nook/etc users on the subway yet? I've seen one nook, but that's it...

Cute. Interesting list. I never ride the subway looking for any romance. But I do see some rather good looking women riding in them every so often. I guess if you were looking for someone that would be a great place to be.

That's an ingenius idea.. I love that along with the Poetry in Motion campaign -- poetry you can read so you don't have to stare at the armpit in front of you while strap hanging! :-D

How adorable! maybe I should guide my single friends in the city to this website.. you never know true love may be lurking round the corner on in this in a NYC subway car..@ajadedidealist I have in fact noticed quite a few kindles on my subway runs though I can't see myself buying one maybe I love old-fashioned books too much.

On the subject of love connections through charming means, Time Out New York has this nice article about literary connections: where New Yorkers post their likes and dislikes in literature in hopes of making a match. I really liked the story at the bottom of the couple who had actually made a match using this method. As the girl says, "Cute, right? Seriously, I might puke."

@Uraniumfish I go to Word a lot and get their monthly email newsletter, so I was this close to participating in that adorable literary match thingy! I've started dating someone since, but this particular matchmaking thing really appeals to my literati-ish nature....

When I was on OkCupid I started with looking at people's favorite books, and if they didn't suit me I didn't bother with the rest of their profile....

The Onion has a pretty charming and irreverent dating site, and people really do list their favorite books as though not agreeing with the list will be a major deal-breaker. I'm not much for cyber-matchmaking myself, preferring to socialize in real life situations like parties and so on, but if I were in the market, I would surely go for the literary matchmaking first.

If I were looking for romance or a date, I certain would not look to see if they are compatible in a literary way. I would want to know if the woman has the same interests, of course, but I would not be that concerned about what they read. I would rather consider if the woman has a good heart. That is first and foremost important to me.
