The Governor of NY
I always thought that Andrew Cuomo was a front runner in the Governor for NY race but just came across this video of Kristin Davis, a former hedge fund manager turned owner of escort agency a.k.a the Manhattan Madam. Despite her appearance, which resembles a blow up blond doll she actually makes some sense as she proposes legalizing pot, gay marriage and even prostitution.

What do you make of her?

If she proposes legalizing pot, you can bet a lot of drug dealers will be going after her. They will lose a lot of business. As for gay marriage, well I prefer to withhold comment. Too controversial of a subject.

@hhusted I am all for Gay marriage .. everyone is entitled to choose their own sexuality.. I am close friends with a gay couple who are actually thinking of leaving NYC and emigrating to Australia because of these laws...

Dang, if she were so well intentioned, I wish she would stay the heck out of politics! What she doesn't realize is her past makes her seem like a far-out-there kook of a candidate, which makes everything she represents seem like a kooky far-out-there idea. So she has the effect of totally removing important issues like gay marriage from the table of serious discussion and debate!
ANY other woman would be a better advocate for her issues, including my sinner of a high school best friend who was certainly loose, but at least didn't go as far as running a brothel for a freakin living.

@uptowngirl Yeah, though I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it gets challenged again. Still good, though. In so many other European countries this is such a non-issue, but here it has to cause a big hooplah every few years. Truly puritannical country.

@uptowngirl She's really well spoken and you want to believe her when she says she cares, but I'm inclined to agree that her background has the effect of possibly trivializing some of the issues she's trying to raise awareness for. And then, you just have to be suspicious about people's motives to begin with: is she only doing this as a stunt so she can write a book later on?

It's had not to notice all the goings on about gay marriage rights when your gay friends are always posting things all over Facebook about them. That's the one issue I always seem to be up on, no matter what.
It's funny - I was watching Ghosts of Mississippi on HBO today, and the white supremacists were using the Bible to prove their points. Remind you of anything?

@BroadwayBK Good point. What the crazies and the religious folks don't seem to understand is the issue of gay marriage is just about practical things like health care and inheriting property after someone dies. Why would anyone care whether two guys who have lived together for twenty years plus can benefit from each other's medical benefits? I sure as heck don't care, but it would make a lot of sense if they could in the social scheme of things. It's not like, by banning gay marriage, gay people would Stop Being Gay, or even Stop Living Together as Married Couples, if that so pleases them, so the religious right gets bloodshot eyes over this issue for no good reason, in my opinion.
But I should probably stop posting on this issue in case any fanatics read this and it starts a big ole hooplah.

@Uraniumfish: I agree. You should stop before you deeply offend someone or some people.

@Uraniumfish What you say is so true, the Gay couple I mentioned in my earlier post are facing this exact problem of health benefits and inheritance of property as they jointly own their NYC apartment. I am secretly wishing that they are allowed to marry because I love them and really dont want them to move away to Australia as I will hardly see them then.Selfish, I know, but when you get older you want to hang on to the friends you have not constantly keep making new ones.

@DBlack somehow I tend to believe her blown up blond bimbo image et al but do realize that she just wont fit in Albany as for that book I think she has a whole host of stories to tell anyway and will probably go on to write one in any case.

Well, when Levi Johnston is running for mayor of Wasilla... That said I'm not sure K-Davis isn't a Republican plant to split the Dem vote (indeed, her ties with Republican campaign operatives are suspicious). That in turn makes me less keen on her...
