I believe I mentioned in a previous topic about what some claim is below the streets of this city. Boats that date back to the 14th century are known to be buried below. There is gold and silver coins down below.

A lot of stuff was buried underground when the roads and sidewalks were being installed. Cement just was pored over on top of stuff.

By the way, I watched the video and found it amazing what is in the subway. But when he went up the Williamsburg Bridge to the top, wow, I don't know how he did it. I'd be scared to death to climb that structure.

@hhusted Would you if had a chance venture out down below and go hunting for the treasures?

Oh, I so would, @uptowngirl (with appropriate, sewage-resistant hazmat suit on, of course! And possibly a clothespin holding my nose shut so I couldn't smell anything...)

@Uptowngirl: Going underground does not bother me. I have strong footing under me. It is the climbing that I don't like. I am scared of heights.

I'm bad in enclosed spaces (subways, planes, etc.) Never used to be that way, but after 9/11 I get nervous at the slightest little sound or noise on the plane or subway. I have to take a bunch of diazepam before getting on a long flight (and keep in mind I fly around 20 times a year!)

@ajadedidealist I get a bit freaked out if a subway line stalls underground for some reason and turbulence on flights really scares me..

Hey, we all have phobias of some type. I'm scared of heights and water. I even hate to shower, but I know I have to, so I get in and out as quickly as I can.

@Uptowngirl: Yep. That is why I stay away from the beach, nor do I get into swimming pools.

I think I'd rather leave crawling around in the sewers to others - just show me the pictures, that's enough!

@hhusted Do you drink water? Or does hydrophobia mean you are just afraid to submerge yourself in the stuff?

NeverSleeps: If I had my way, I wouldn't even drink it. But my doctor told me I need water to live. Anyway, just to give you a very brief reason why I hate water, it stems from when I was about 9 years old. I was over at a friend's house. They had a swimming pool. I didn't have a fear of water then. I was sitting at the pool with my feet in the water. One of the bullies in the neighborhood was sitting next to me. He threw me in the water, and held my head underwater as a joke. He wanted to see how long I could stay under water I guess. I began to panic. I was trying to do everything to release his hold on me. I was running out of air. I had to breathe. Thankfully, some of my closest friends were coming out of the house and saw what was going on. One of them yelled to have the owner come out. She did and she managed to rush over to the pool and release the guy's grip on me. She grabbed my arms and pulled me out of the water.

If she had waited another 5 seconds, I would have drowned. The lady called the bully's parents. The bully was arrested for attempted drowning. From what a few of my friends told me, his family moved out of town the next month and I never saw him again. Now you know why I have such a fear of water. I went to therapy for it but still can't face water. I'm a bit better now, as I can actually drink it without shaking, but take me near the water, and my heart starts racing and I go into panic mode.
