"Suburban Neighborhood With Lots Of Green Space"

Markham is a community with a decidedly suburban feel and located in the Southwest portion of Portland. Located near the I-5 freeway, Markham is an easy commute to downtown, which is why this area is popular for those working in the city, yet want to raise their families in a more peaceful and traditional neighborhood.

There are a variety of home styles in this community and they tend to be higher priced than many of the surrounding areas, which is why this neighborhood is usually out of the price range for those looking for a starter home.

Take advantage of the many parks and natural areas Markham has to offer, particularly nearby Marshall Park full of hiking trails, a waterfall and a playground. It is one of the more beautiful parks in Portland and just over 25 acres.

  • A quiet escape from the city
  • Laid-back feeling

"Upscale and Suburban Area with Plenty of Impressive Parks"

Markham is a SW Portland neighborhood that I definitely recommend to those that can afford it. The homes in Markham tend to be a bit pricier. In this area, you definitely could shut your eyes and picture yourself in the suburbs. In fact, Markham really might as well be in the suburbs. Yet, if you hop on I-5, you are just a short drive away from Downtown Portland. This really is one of the amazing things about the SW Portland areas!

Markham is home to the Maricara Natural Area, which is quite large at 17 acres. This park feels more like a natural retreat than many Portland areas. It has huge trees and 2600 feet of trails. It also has a wetland and protected stream! Marshall Park is also conveniently located for Markham residents. This area has a 400 foot wide canyon with nature trails within it. It also has a cute waterfall. Clearly, Markham is ideal for the nature lover.

"Quiet Neighborhood For Professionals Who Want to Escape the City"

Southwest Portland's Markham neighborhood has a decidedly suburban feeling. This is an ideal location for parents looking to raise their kids out of the hustle and bustle of the city, but who still want easy access to everything the city offers.

Markham offers plenty of green spaces to get away from it all. Take a hike in Marshall Park or explore the wilderness of Maricara nature reserve. What it doesn't offer is the easy access to shopping, restaurants, and other amenities that residents of more urban areas of Portland take for granted. However, if you don't mind driving to these activities, they're just a short drive away.

Residents tend to be older, well educated professionals and retirees who are a bit better off than the average Portland resident. Expect higher home prices than elsewhere in the city. There aren't any apartments, and the few homes that are for rent are extremely popular, making for higher rental costs. Residents tend to be those who have decided that getting away from the city center is worth the higher costs.

This laid-back neighborhood is a great option for professionals who work in the city but prefer to live in a less urban environment.
